Lucedale

Lucedale City was founded in 1901 and has made great strides in progress for residents and visitors alike. It is known as the city where “People and Progress Meet.” Lucedale is in George County, and visitors may find a variety of festivities in the area throughout the year.

Lucedale may be small, but it is mighty in the way of outdoor recreation. Kids can enjoy a day filled with ball field adventures. Whether they play baseball, soccer, or softball, the Milton Murrah Ball Field Complex hosts it all. Just adjacent to this complex is the Lucedale soccer complex, hosting lighted fields and a softball field.

If you’re looking for a place to relax and read a book, have a picnic, or play with your kids, the Lucedale City park is a unique space that has something for young and old alike. The park has new state of the art playground equipment, courts for basketball and tennis, a walking track, facilities for picnics and gatherings, and even a Splash Pad that makes for great fun in the Spring, Summer, and Fall months. The Municipal Park is a perfect place for birthday parties and reunions and holds a 300 seat amphitheater. Two smaller parks are also located in Lucedale. They are the Lavelett Park and the Benyard Park.

The Lucedale-George County Public Library is a wonderful compliment to the city. It has one national notoriety for being a “little library that could.” The Library sponsors the Mississippi Shakespeare event every two years. During this performance, the Lucedale City Park becomes a host for short scenes from Shakespeare’s works. Local actors transform in to Elizabethan actors, providing music and entertainment for visitors.

For nature lovers, the Lucedale Depot Greenway is a wonderful place to visit for a day or even a lunch break. The area includes walking trails, a handicap accessible boardwalk, and two small fishing ponds. Visitors can also explore the main pavilion, which serves as the main event space for the Lucedale community.

Visit Lucedale and see why this city is rich in community, festivities, and outdoor adventure.
