Jazz in the Pass

Jazz in the Pass celebrated its first festival on May 8, 1999. The festival continued for a consecutive eight years until damage caused by Hurricane Katrina shut it down. Jazz in the Pass resumed in 2011 and is able to continue this celebration of Pass Christian’s musical heritage with the support of Pass Christian Main Street.

The festival was founded with the intention of continuing the area’s heritage while spreading the joy of music. As attendees and musicians alike gather beneath the oaks to enjoy the sounds of heritage, a sense of community spirit is amplified and smiles can be found in every direction. Students in the community are encouraged to participate with a variety of instruments and music. The festival hopes to inspire the continuation of music programs in the local schools where musicians can demonstrate instruments and give lectures on their vocations. Among several organizations that support Jazz in the Pass, the festival thrives on the support of the Pass Christian Mayor, The Harrison County Board of Supervisors, Corporate Sponsors, The Board of Aldermen, town residents, and enthusiasts from throughout the Southeastern region.

Pass Christian is home to both blues and jazz, celebrating the early fusion of these two genres in the Jazz in the Pass music festival. These two days full of music and dancing are sure to entertain the whole family. Bring your favorite lawn chair, blanket, or feel free to dance the whole time.
