The La Pointe – Krebs House was constructed in 1757 and that makes it the oldest standing scientifically-confirmed structure in the area of the country between the Rockies and the Appalachians. The La Pointe – Krebs House is the ancestral home to the Krebs family – that now stretches across America. It is significant as not only a colonial site but also as a Native American site. Being that the land has been virtually unchanged throughout the years, it remains close to as it appeared 10,000 years ago. It is considered by archaeologists to be one of the most important archaeological sites on the Gulf Coast. The La Pointe – Krebs House recently completed the most massive restoration that’s ever been performed on it. The adjacent museum building on the property is open and serves as an interpretive center for not only the House itself but also the history of the Pascagoula area and Jackson County. Formerly known as The Old Spanish Fort – LaPointe-Krebs house is neither a fort nor Spanish, but it is indeed old – it pre-dates the American Revolutionary War by over two decades.
