Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum

Since 1986 The Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum has preserved, protected, and interpreted the history of the seas surrounding Biloxi and The Mississippi Gulf Coast. Mississippi's finest maritime detectives' hard work took a major hit in 2005 when Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast and destroyed the old museum. Our aquatic heroes rebounded with an amazing new building that opened in 2014. The new museum has 1,400 square feet for exhibit space and a high tech theater that brings the vibrant sights and sounds of the sea ashore just for you. Learn all about shrimping, fishing, and oystering. Educational exhibits range from blacksmithing and wooden boat building to making nets, protecting the wetlands and managing marine resources. Discover new details about catboats, charter boats, and operating a mechanized shrimp peeler.

The museum enrolls kids in year round programs to study our Gulf Coast maritime heritage and hoists the sails every summer in June and July for Sea-N-Sail Adventure Camp. Sea Campers aged 6 to 13 break into groups by age for an action packed week of topics above and below the waterline from 8am to 4pm. Campers will get hands on experience on field trips to the Institute of Marine and Mammal Studies and will watch crab pots being pulled at the pier. They'll shove off on a real shrimp trawler, too! Each week ends with passing out trophies at the awards ceremony with friends and family right here at the museum at 115 First Street, Biloxi.

Connect with Biloxi's rich 300 year history dating back to the first landing of French vessels in 1699. Come aboard authentic oyster schooners that replicate the ships that sailed the Coast in the late 1800's. The “Glenn L. Swetman” and the “Mike Sekul” charter daily and service birthdays, weddings, and other special events. School groups can also embark on two hour educational trips offered at discounted rates. Celebrate Biloxi's seafaring legacy and witness an incredible sunset on the majesty of these “White Winged Queens.”

Join us for the famous New Year's Eve Oyster Drop or swing by to see The Wade Guice Hurricane Museum within a museum and observe artifacts, photos, and Gulf Coast maritime folklore. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and students (5 to 15) are just $6. Future shipmates under 5 are free. Sail, study, or stroll through one of the great treasures of Biloxi. The galley is always stocked, so bring some friends to the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum.
