Intermodal Tourist Center & Lower Pearl River Valley Transportation Museum

Celebrate all forms of passenger driven motion in this centrally located nexus of history and modern travel.

The “Train Depot” in the center of Historic Downtown represents the beating heart of Picayune tourism. Amtrak Crescent passenger trains arrive twice daily, but this quaint building that that provides rail service to New Orleans and New York offers visitors much more. The Intermodal Tourist Center provides newcomers and locals alike places to meet, greet, and of course, eat.

Learn about The Crosby Arboretum where 700 acres of land supports hundreds of species of indigenous trees and shrubs. Birders should ask about Bogue Chitto National Wildlife Refuge that covers 36,000 acres of swampland and provides sanctuary to hundreds of bird species from hawks and owls to bald eagles and wild turkeys. The John C. Stennis Space Center, located on the banks of the Pearl River, is also a sight worth seeing. Ask about launch dates and who knows- You might see something special from NASA's branch office here on the Gulf Coast.

The Lower Pearl River Valley Transportation Museum honors transportation in all forms. Volunteers guide visitors through a travel timeline that begins on horseback with Southern Mississippi's early settlers. From land to sea you'll review steamboat river passage. Educational exhibits on early automobiles, aeronautics, and even space travel can be found here. Lower Pearl River Valley volunteers are weaving a chronological transportation tapestry that will leave a legacy for future generations to study. Stop by and participate in a transportation time capsule that will enlighten generations of Mississippians to come.
