The Josephine Sandbar is a historic marker on the Pascagoula River in George County. Nestled between banks of hardwood forests, the sandbar offers visitors a beautiful respite along their journey through the unimpeded waters of the Pascagoula River.
The sandbar is a perfect place for picnics, gatherings, swimming, and relaxing with family and friends. You may see a variety of wildlife including birds, fish, turtles, and more that may be living in the forested banks above the river.
A permit is required for all visitors to the sandbar. Permits are accessible through the Pascagoula River Wildlife Management Area (https://www.mdwfp.com/wildlife-hunting/wmas/southeast-region/pascagoula-river.aspx). With one of these permits, anyone may visit the river throughout the entire year.
